Local food pantry to benefit from concert

LOCK HAVEN — The Central Pennsylvania Community Band will present their spring concert on Monday, May 13, in the Central Mountain Middle School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

There will be a collection of nonperishable canned and boxed food items to help fight hunger in the local community. Please make sure the food items are not expired. The items will be donated to the St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mill Hall for their food pantry.

The Central Pennsylvania Community Band is an all-volunteer organization of musicians from Clinton, Lycoming and Centre Counties directed by Mr. Paul Kellerman, the former Director of Bald Eagle Nittany and Williamsport High School bands. Central Mountain High School band director Ms. Ashley Crust assists him.

The audience at this concert will hear selections that include a variety of musical genres including marches, show tunes, popular music and traditional concert band pieces.

The concert starts off with “The Ocean of Fire” taking the listeners on an exciting journey through the mysterious and vast untamed Arabian desert. Other songs performed by the band will include Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E Flat, the “Suite from Man of La Mancha” where the audience will hear favorites “The Impossible Dream”, “Man of La Mancha”, among others. “Carnaval in S”n Paulo” with its Latin beat will feature the percussion section of the band. The bottom brass of the band will be showcased in “Basses on a Rampage March” and “Alkali Ike Rag”. “The Best of Leroy Anderson includes songs such as “Blue Tango”, “Plink! Plank! Plunk!” “The Syncopated Clock” and “A Trumpeter’s Lullaby” Many other songs will be included in the evening’s program for the audience’s pleasure.

The Central Pennsylvania Community Band is always accepting new members. They rehearse Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the band room of the Central Mountain Middle School.
