Floral, gift shop opens in Woodward Township
DUNNSTOWN — There’s a new flower/gift shop in town.
John Wetzel of Lock Haven recently opened Keystone Florists and Gifts at 20 Woodward Ave., just across the Constitution Bridge in Woodward Township.
And he’s excited to tell everyone about what he has to offer.
Having been in the flower business since he was 13, John knows all about fresh flowers and how to make beautiful arrangements for all occasions.
“I grew up in a flower shop in Pennsacola, Fla.,” he said as he walked around the shop and described the unique items he has in store for customers.
From a line of quality leather purses and wallets at reasonable prices to the largest garden flag assortment in the area, the shop is filled to the brim with gift items fit for people of all ages, including babies.
There’s a special baby section that features all kinds of baby stuff, from baby shower items to cigars and Hershey kisses proclaiming, “It’s a boy or It’s a girl” for the proud parents to pass out to friends and family. He also offers items for “the big sister” or “the big brother,” to make sure they are not forgotten in the celebration of a new baby in the house.
What would a gift shop be without items proclaiming one’s favorite sports team or special hobby?
In Keystone Florists and Gifts, fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State Nittany Lions, along with Harley Davidson, Farmall and John Deere, will find something for their special collections.
And there’s no need for customers to imagine what a special arrangement will look like.
They can take a trip into the walk-in cooler and see first hand the colorful flowers available for use. Making life a little easier, each type of flower is labeled so customers know exactly what they are looking it, from roses of many colors to gladiolas and gerber daisies and of course carnations.
There’s also a nice assortment of Leaning Tree greeting cars, and a good selection of outdoor decorations.
Items in the shop number into the hundreds, with more coming daily, Wetzel said.
He also offers a special Monthly Rose Card.
“Just get a card and bring it into the shop each month for a free rose and a punch on the card. After you’ve filled the card with 12 punches, you’ll get a 20 percent discount on your next order,” he explained.
Wetzel, whose mother Patricia helps him out in the shop, also offers tuxedo rentals for wedding, balls and other special occasions.
He employs just one other employee, Holly Hill, who says the shop seems to get busier every day as word spreads throughout the community.
Having been in the florist business in Florida for so long, Wetzel brags about some of the famous people he has made arrangements for, including George H.W. Bush, Matthew Broderick, and Lionel Richie, who always asked for yellow roses.
He couldn’t help but smile broadly as he talked about those special deliveries.
