LOGANTON — The Southern Clinton County YHEC (Youth Hunter Education Challenge) club was recently awarded a sizeable grant from the National Rifle Association Foundation.

Each year Friends of the NRA form volunteer committees across the country and tirelessly raise charitable dollars and generous donors make gifts that are in turn awarded as grants in support of communities. Friends of the NRA is a grassroots fundraising program that fosters community involvement to organize and, with help from the NRA field staff, plan community events for firearms enthusiasts. All net proceeds from Friends of NRA events are allocated to the NRA Foundation, the leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports. Through NRA Foundation grants, for equipment, training materials, range improvements, and more, qualified local, state, and national programs receive aid to involve and inspire a new generation of competitive shooters.

Often, the NRA Foundations work hits close to home.

The Southern Clinton YHEC teams have received grants for the past several years in the form of dozens of cases of ammunition, pallets of clay birds, official NRA YHEC knock-down rifle and muzzleloader targets, automatic clay bird thrower, wildlife identification material, and safety equipment. Their support has enabled our club to train and mentor America’s next generation of hunters – today’s youth.

Their support has definitely made an impact in our YHEC program. SCC YHEC teams have seen results first hand with many team and individual awards at both the regional and state competitions.

Approximately 75 percent of revenue to the NRA Foundation comes from local Friends of NRA events. This year’s Southern Clinton County Friends of NRA Banquet will be Oct. 6, at 4 p.m. with dinner being served at 6 p.m. at the Castanea Fire Co. Picnic Grounds, 859 Lower Creek Road, Lock Haven, PA 17745. For more information, please contact Susie Peters at (570)660-4303 or email brucepeters1@comcast.net.
