ROTC Cadet attends internship in Germany
LOCK HAVEN – Leanne Fries, a Lock Haven University Army ROTC cadet and Social Work student, was given the opportunity to attend the Army Medical Department Internship Program at the Army’s famous Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) in Landstuhl, Germany, from July 3 to 28.
The purpose of the program is to give cadets interested in the Army Medical Services branch the opportunity to shadow and learn from world-renowned doctors. The internship is extremely competitive, with only six cadets chosen from different ROTC programs across the nation, two of the six coming from LHU’s Army ROTC program.
According to Fries, the trip to Landstuhl, Germany, proved to be an enriching opportunity to not only shadow professionals in her field of study in Social Work but to also explore different medical departments throughout the entire hospital. She shadowed professionals in many departments such as Surgery, Labor and Delivery, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Family Advocacy Program, Internal Medicine, and the Emergency Department.
Overall, her experience in Germany taught her more about herself and about being a professional social worker, only furthering her desire to continue working with soldiers or civilians in the future.
