6th annual Merry Millheim is Dec. 2-4

MILLHEIM — The little town of Millheim is laying out the red and green welcome mat once again as the townsfolk presents their  6th annual “Merry Millheim” celebration from Dec. 2 – 4  with a weekend full of food, fun, music, and of course, shopping.

Millheim has had a bit of a resurgence in the past few years, and many of the once vacant store fronts are now filled with new and vibrant businesses that serve as community hubs throughout the year,  particularly during the upcoming Holiday Season.

A favorite stop during Merry Millheim is the Handmade Holiday Market that takes place at the Bremen Town Ballroom on Friday 5-9pm and on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.  The indoor shopping venue will feature local and artists who produce and craft items such as jewelry, foods, household items and many other gift giving selections.

The historic Millheim Theatre will open its door to the public as they host the “Festival of Trees” on the stage.  The theme for this year’s festival is “One Horse Open Sleigh & Wreath Display.”  The theatre will be open to the public on Friday, Dec. 2 from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from noon through 8pm and also on Sunday from noon to 3pm. This year a beautifully restored cutter sleigh will take center stage while the rest of the auditorium will be filled with wreaths that are decorated by local nonprofit organizations.

The Millheim Hotel will welcome visitors with a Live Nativity Scene and Christmas Carols starting at 6pm and across the road at the Green Drake Art Gallery, the Four Decades Barbershop Quartet will be performing with their uplifting, old fashioned harmonies as they sing traditional Christmas tunes from years gone by, beginning at 7 p.m.

Merry Millheim wouldn’t be complete without a visit from jolly ole Saint Nick himself! Kids of all ages can find Santa at the Bryant and Catorna Law Offices on East Main Street on Friday from 6-8 p.m.

St. Luke’s Cultural Center, located at 117 Penn St., in conjunction with Penns Valley’s local radio station, WSOV, will present a Holiday Gala, which will feature live music by the Jay Vonada Jazz Quartet at 8 p.m. on Friday.  Formal dress and dancing is encouraged for this event.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 101 Mill St. will have a Cookie Walk to benefit their daycare fund from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

On Saturday night, Elk Creek Cafe and Aleworks, located at 100 W. Main St., will showcase the band Frog Holler at 8 p.m.

Merry Millheim events are not confined to the boarders of the borough and extend over into Brush Valley and all the way up to Spring Mills.

ForeFather’s Book Shop and Main Street Yarn at 112 E. Main St., Rebersburg will be serving up holiday snacks both Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.  On Saturday beginning at 11 a.m they will have “Christmas Story Time,” and every child who attends will receive a small gift.

If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more distinguished, the Hummingbird Room at 4188 Penns Valley Road will host a Holiday Open House and Gourmet-To-Go on Friday from 5-9 p.m,  Saturday from noon -6 p.m., and Sunday from noon-6 p.m.  The Hummingbird Room has a reputation both far and wide for providing exceptional, locally sourced gourmet foods, breads and desserts and preserves in a country setting.

The proceeds from the 2016 Merry Millheim  will benefit the East Penns Valley Library and a portion of the profits from the Festival of Trees wreath sale will directly benefit the library.
