New Love Center served 936 in October
JERSEY SHORE — In the month of October 2016 the New Love Center Food Pantry distributed food to 381 families which served 939 people in our coverage area of Linden, Jersey Shore, Nippenose Valley, Waterville, Cammal, Slate Run, Avis, Woolrich, and McElhattan. Our numbers increased by about 40 families this month.
Also, 741 pounds of food was donated.
Distribution dates in November are Nov. 11 and 25.
In November we are seeking donations of (any brand) stove top stuffing mix, 15 oz. can pumpkin, and turkey gravy. We are always in need of 15 oz. jars of peanut butter. These items are needed for our holiday box distribution in December.
You may donate food by leaving it at the New Love Center Food Pantry, 229 South Broad Street or leave the items in the red shed behind the church. We also have a number of Feed a Friend barrels and boxes around town in which we are collecting the above food items for December. Lingles Market is supporting the center by offering pre-packaged bags of the items for Christmas boxes for only $5.
On Friday, Nov. 18, we will have a truck from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank at Weis Markets in Jersey Shore from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Anyone wishing to donate a turkey may leave it with the volunteers at the Food Bank truck.
In the month of December we will have one distribution on Friday, Dec. 16. Clients must fall under the Department of Agriculture guidelines to receive a Christmas box.
In December we are seeking donations of pancake mix and syrup for our January distribution.
The New Love Center Food Pantry now has a new phone number, 570-772-3275. Emergency food is available Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. -6 p.m. However, we have more to offer if you come on the second or fourth Fridays of each month when we often have produce and bread products as well.
The New Love Center Food Pantry also distributes the Senior Box program for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Seniors are eligible for both a regular food box and a senior box if they fall under the income guidelines but they must sign up for each.
The New Love Center is operated by an independent board and not affiliated with any church even though we are currently operating out of two church buildings. The NLC is incorporated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Food Pantry is operated totally by volunteers. We are always in need of volunteers. Please contact the above number if you wish to volunteer or if you would like to have a speaker come to your organization to speak about the operations of the New Love Center.
