THANKSGIVING DINNER

Beech Creek Wesleyan Church will host their 8th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 11-2 at the church. The meal will feature turkey and all the trimmings. You can dine in or take-out. Deliveries will also be done by pre-arranging your time. Call 570-295-7217 or 570-962-2732 for deliveries by Nov. 22.

FOOD BANK REMINDER

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution date will be on Nov. 20. Centre County residents who live in Blanchard, Howard, Marsh Creek, Monument, Orviston and the townships of East Boggs (excludes Milesburg), Curtin, Howard, Liberty, Marion and Walker should have obtained their food box on November 6, but if you missed you can come to the food bank on the 20th. Residents who live in Beech Creek and Beech Creek Township are eligible to receive their food box on November 20. The Food Bank is open from 2-4 at the former Beech Creek Elementary School.

Those food bank recipients who desire a turkey for their Christmas meal and the Toys for Tots program will need to register during their November Food Bank visit. Turkeys from the Food Bank are not given out for Thanksgiving, just at Christmastime. If you missed registering for a turkey or toys on Nov. 6 then you need to stop by the Food Bank on November 20. UPCOMING EVENTS

November morning bird walks will be held at Bald Eagle State Park each Wednesday from 9-10:30 a.m. You’ll be able to get some exercise and discover the many birds that are in the park. Dress for the outdoors and bring your binoculars. The meeting location will vary each week so call ahead for details to 814-625-9369.

Jacksonville Emmanuel United Church of Christ will hold a Soup and Bake Sale on Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. until the soup is gone. The soup flavors available will be ham and bean, chicken corn and vegetable beef. The cost is $5 per quart. There will be ham and turkey sandwiches available, too. The baked goods will feature bread, cookies, pies and other homemade goodies. There will also be live holiday wreaths available for sale. A portion of the proceeds will be used for the UCC Summer Church Camp program. Call Joyce at 814-482-1343 for more info.

Howard United Methodist Church will provide a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 18 from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the church fellowship hall. The meal is free, but a donation of non-perishable food items will be accepted and given to the local food bank. Bring a friend and come for good food and fellowship. Bald Eagle Area School’s Spanish Club will be hosting a Fall Craft & Gift Fair on Nov. 25 from 9-3. Non-perishable food items will be collected during the event to stock the local food banks for the holiday season. For each non-perishable food item you bring you’ll be awarded free raffle tickets to win some really nice prizes. There are more than 100 vendors signed up for this event.

BEA Student Government group will be accepting donated dresses for the upcoming prom season. The strongest need is for modern prom dresses and semi-formals for the girls to wear to the dances. Dresses are offered to students who may not be otherwise able to afford a dress for their dance. For more info on how you can donate a prom dress call Diane at 814-280-8935.

Breakfast with Santa will be held at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall on Dec. 2. This is the 5th annual breakfast and is free to attend. The event runs from 9-11 a.m. and will feature breakfast, kid’s crafts and photos with Santa. Bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Howard Area Lions Food Bank. This event is the Senior Class Project of Raine Smith and is sponsored by Woodmen Life and other local businesses.

Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard will have a Holiday Dinner and Concert on the evening of Dec. 2 . A dinner is planned and the Keystone State Quartet from Ebensburg will provide the Southern-style Gospel concert. Proceeds from this event will help with the cost of the church gym facility. The annual Santa Jump Jamboree will be held in Beech Creek on Saturday, Dec. 9. Food and craft vendors are needed and volunteers to help with the event are also needed. Call Billie at 570-962-9944 or Wendy at 570-295-0421 for a vendor application or for more info.

This year Santa and his elves will parachute onto the ball field at 1 p.m., weather permitting that the plane can fly. Vendors will be set up in the Friendship Community Center and the fire company social hall and along the grounds from the ball field to the borough building. There will be bike give-aways for three age groups and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary will be giving away turkeys and hams. Santa will meet and greet the children and hand out treats upon his arrival. Strolling characters will be on scene for photos to be taken with them throughout the day.

Howard Area Lions blood drive will be held on Dec, 13 at the Howard fire hall from 1:30-7 p.m. Blood donors of all types are needed.
