The Encores to play at Taber Museum

WILLIAMSPORT — The Lycoming County Historical Society will conclude its 2017 Lecture Series next Thursday with a performance by The Encores in the Taber Museum Community Room at 10 a.m.

The musical interlude is free and open to the public.

Comprised of senior members of the community, the group will perform band repertoire, including a number of holiday songs with opportunity for some singing along. Light refreshments will be served.

Started by Carol Sides and Albert Nacinovich, The Encores band is also directed by Lucy Henry, Judy Shellenberger and Theo Lentz. It is the local answer to the nationwide New Horizons groups, offering a comfortable re-entry point for adults who played music in school and would like to resume playing. The band is open to anyone over 50 years of age wanting to learn to play an instrument, relearn to play or play something different from what they already play.

The historical society’s lecture series focused on “Communities” for the 2017 season, with 14 lectures presented throughout the year. The theme of the 2018 lecture series will explore the era of World War I with talks scheduled to include a discussion of local quilts with the embroidered names of soldiers and nurses from the area; music by George Gershwin and Irving Berlin; and an appearance by “Black Jack” Pershing as portrayed by David Shuey.
