Author to speak at Martin Luther King Day celebration

LOCK HAVEN– James Braxton Peterson, director of Africana studies and professor of English at Lehigh University, will speak about “the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how students can continue his work” at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at Lock Haven University.

The celebration will be held from 1:30-2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 in Price Auditorium.

Peterson is the author of several books, “The Hip Hop Underground and African American Culture,” “Prison Industrial Complex for Beginners” and “Hip Hop Headphones: A Scholar’s Critical Playlist.”

He is the host of “The Remix” on Philadelphia’s NPR affiliate, WHYY. “The Remix” is a podcast that engages issues at the intersection of race, politics, and popular culture.

He is a Senior Fellow in the Governance Studies Program at the Brookings Institute. Peterson has written for Newsweek.com, The Guardian, The LA Times, Reuters, and The Daily Beast and The Grio. He is a media commentator and has appeared on MSNBC, Al-Jazeera, CNN, HLN, Fox News, and other networks as an expert on race, politics, and popular culture.

The event is free and open to the public and will also be broadcast to the LHU Clearfield Campus.
