Seaplane base in Lock Haven
Piper Aircraft Corp. had this informal seaplane base in the river at Lock Haven, at the boat club’s dock, just below what is now Veterans Bridge at Jay Street. Five Piper planes equipped with floats are seen tied to the shore. Behind the dock is the stone canal lock, marking the entrance from the river of the old canal which extended south through today’s Canal Park. The lock stones and the monument were moved across Water Street to the park’s entrance when the levee was built. We think this photo was taken in the 1940s. We’d love to hear from anyone who knows more about it. Please contact Wendy Stiver at The Express at 570-748-6791 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
