Rotary blood testing offered in March

LOCK HAVEN – The Rotary Club of Lock Haven will sponsor its 43rd annual AMBA wellness health screen blood testing on two consecutive Saturdays, March 3 and March 10, from 6 to 10 a.m. in Conference Room A-B at UPMC Lock Haven Hospital, 24 Cree Drive.

The diagnostic blood tests available can cost hundreds of dollars if obtained through private laboratories, according to Rotary Club President April Welshans.

“Through the program sponsored by Lock Haven Rotary, area residents can obtain blood tests at greatly discounted affordable costs. The tests also provide their family physician with valuable information about that person’s existing health condition, which allows for the early diagnosis and treatment of any medical problems,” she said.

The full blood-testing panel consists of tests for coronary disease, diabetes, anemia, kidney disease, liver disease, calcium, chloride, potassium, and sodium. The cost is $40 for the full AMBA panel of 28 tests. Individuals taking the tests are required to fast, not eating any food or beverages, for 13 hours prior to their scheduled appointment time for the tests.

Also available at additional cost are five specialized tests. AMBA requires that a separate physician order must be presented for any of the optional tests, which include: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) for $25.70; Thyroid TSH for $12; Vitamin D-25 for $25; Hemoglobin A1C for $12; and Insure Colon Rectal Kit for $20. The screenings are not covered by Medicare and most other insurance companies.

Payment for the AMBA tests are to be made only with a check or money order made payable to AMBA Wellness Programs.

An additional separate fee of $5, payable in cash or check, will be charged by Rotary to cover costs of advertising and light refreshments for individuals having blood screening tests.

Rotary uses any proceeds remaining after expenses to make charitable contributions within the community.

Interested individuals must schedule an appointment for this testing and may do so by calling 1-800-234-8888 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Callers will be asked their physician’s name, address, and phone number at the time of the call. Individuals should check with their personal physicians to determine if they require a prescription for the blood panel testing.
