WSO offers concert close to Valentine’s Day
WILLIAMSPORT — The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Gerardo Edelstein, presents its third concert of the season, “The New World,” Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Arts Center.
This evening of all-American music celebrates Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday as well as Valentine’s Day. It features two of WSO’s principals, Sue Laib on oboe and Dale Orris on trumpet, in Aaron Copland’s Quiet City.
The program includes pieces all written in America but totally different in style, mood and approach. The first half includes Jennifer Higdon’s Blue Cathedral, Copland’s Quiet City, and Bernstein’s Three Dances Episodes from On the Town. Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” by Dvorak will be performed in the second half.
