Two families homeless after Loganton fire

LOGANTON — Sugar Valley Fire Company responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon near Tylersville, at 3147 West Winter Road, that left two families out in the cold.

The blaze began just a little before 2 p.m., and ended up lasting about four hours from start to finish, with numerous fire companies from Clinton, Centre and Lycoming counties assisting.

The home, which was owned by Mr. and Mrs. John Stoltzfus, and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Stoltzfus, was over 100 years old.

Sugar Valley Fire Chief Scott Kemmerer stated that according to the homeowner, the fire is believed to have been started by a “snitz” (sliced apple) dryer on the coal stove.

Fire companies and EMS units on the scene were Sugar Valley, Nittany Valley, Lamar Township, Lock Haven Citizen’s, Dunnstown, Castanea, Miles Township, Millheim, and Nippenose Township.

Also responding were Goodwill Hose Ambulance and Lock Haven EMS (Rehab Unit).
