UPCOMING EVENTS
Howard Area Lions Club Litter Patrol will be cleaning up the local roadways on Saturday, April 21. Lions are to meet at the Howard VFW Club at 8 a.m. to begin clean-up operations. Give a friendly wave to those picking up trash when you see them.
Howard Area Lions Bingo will be held on April 26 at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m. and the bingo games begin at 6:30.
A Spring Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. -noon at Bald Eagle State Park. Volunteers are needed to assist with some park beautification projects which will include picking up litter and debris (like limbs and sticks) that have accumulated during the winter months. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Meet at the temporary park office for instructions.
Also on April 28 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon you can join the park naturalist for “An Amphibian’s Tale – From Eggs to Legs” at the Frog Pond area. In celebration of “Save the Frogs Day” you can learn observe and learn about frogs and other native amphibians found at Bald Eagle State Park. Meet at Pavilion #6 near the beach for this event. A Kid’s Fishing Derby will be held on May 6 at Liberty Township Sportsmen’s Association beginning at 9 a.m. The club’s pond will be stocked and the event is free for little tykes up to age 12. Pre-registration is required and can be done on the website or at 8:30 on Sunday morning before the fishing derby starts. Call Butch at 814-280-3015 for more info.
The Howard Community Town-wide Yard Sales will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.
Residents are encouraged to set up their yard or garage sales on these days.
Howard Christian Church will have a yard and bake sale on May 4-5, too. Donations of good, clean and working items are being accepted at the church. Proceeds from the sale are used to help those of the community with crisis needs. Baked goods and hot dogs will also be sold during the sale days to support the upcoming missions trips. The Howard Fire Company will have their annual in-door yard sale on May 17-19 at the fire hall. Donations will only be accepted on Monday-Wednesday, May 14-16, 2018.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Advent Cemetery along Moose Run Road on Monday, May 28 beginning at 9 a.m. The public is invited to the memorial service. Afterward, an Advent Hymn Sing will be held in the church beginning at 9:45 a.m. The church and museum will be open for browsing, too. SYLVAN HILLS CELEBRATION
Sylvan Hills Christian Service Camp will be celebrating 70 years of life-changing ministry in 2018. A free and fun event is planned for the entire family from noon to 4 p.m. at the Camp at 175 Sylvan Hills Road (along Little Marsh Creek Road) near Howard on April 28.
From noon to 2 p.m. food will be served. Outdoor games will be played from 12:30 to 2:30. Children’s activities will be provided from 1-3 p.m. The Zip-line will be open for those 14 years of age and older. A celebration service will begin at 3 o’clock followed by campfire activities at 4 p.m.
The public is invited to come to Sylvan Hills for the celebration and to learn more about the last 70 years of history and ministry there. POP-UP MARKET
There will be a Pop-Up Market on May 12 at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Melissa Stover, owner of Queen Bee Collectibles, is organizing this market and is looking for vendors to participate. Vendors with handmade items, antiques, crafts, baked goods and more who would like to purchase a table space should call Melissa at 717-386-9669 or send an email to her at sweetapeez@gmail.com.
The Friendship Community Center will have their kitchen open with food and snacks available for sale during the market.
