The CM Jazz Cats earned a Superior rating and were adjudicated for their recent performance in Lebanon, Pa. at the Music in the Parks festival. The Jazz ensemble is comprised of Central Mountain students in grades 6 through 11. Students played two pieces that they have been preparing for their upcoming spring concert. Both judges — Walt Straiton and Dr. Marc Jacoby– were highly impressed with the group. The CM Jazz Cats are under the direction of district music teacher, Ashley Crust. Following their performance in Lebanon, the CM Jazz Cats spent the day at Hershey Park. Music in the Parks is a national event held at amusement parks across the country. Ensembles from the United States and Canada participate in Music in the Parks. Student groups are adjudicated by a panel of experienced master music educators who evaluate hundreds of groups over the course of the festival season using a five-tier rating system: Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair and Poor. The highly-recognized music educators also offer suggestions on how the students can improve their performance skills. Pictured are members of the CM Jazz Cats with their Superior rating trophy.
