MILL HALL — For the third consecutive year, Central Mountain High School Student Government Public Relations Committee organized a Great American PA Clean Up.

The event was held in conjunction with Earth Day and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

This year, students canvassed Central Mountain High School, Central Mountain Middle School, Mill Hall Elementary, Mill Hall Park, UPMC Lock Haven, and Susque-View Home.

Twenty six volunteers came out to help in the effort. They collected 31 bags of garbage in addition to other large pieces of debris.

CMHS Senior Jolee McCluskey, who chaired the event, was very happy with the turn out of her peers.

Gavyn Walker, Sarabeth Bowmaster, and Kendall McCluskey take a break from cleaning up debris from the CMHS wetlands.

“For being a little on the cold side and windy in the morning, I’m really happy so many students decided to participate,” said McCluskey.

One of the main areas of focus was the wetlands at CMHS. “There is a lot of garbage in the high grass of the wetlands,” said sophomore Sarabeth Bowmaster. “We filled one bag on one side of the ponds,” she continued.

The event is registered with Great American PA Clean Up and is titled “CMHS Cares about our Community.” PennDOT supplies garbage bags, gloves, and vests for the volunteers.

Jalissa Shreckengast and Gillian Lingle collected garbage from the overgrowth and drainage areas at UPMC Lock Haven.
