Howard bridge renamed in honor of area veterans

Elected and other officials gathered at the bridge in Howard Township on Wednesday to rename it the Howard Area Veterans Bridge. “Howard Township officials contacted my office about their desire to honor the citizens of Centre County who have served, or are currently serving our nation in the Armed Forces,’ said state Rep. Mike Hanna Sr. As many of you might know, Centre County residents have served in every major United States military conflict beginning with the Revolutionary War, so it is only fitting that we honor these men and women in uniform with a lasting tribute. It’s also a permanent reminder of the dedication to our country by our local heroes.” The bridge renamed for Howard area veterans is the state Route 26 bridge over Bald Eagle Creek. Hanna sponsored an amendment to S.B. 289 to name the bridge. Act 27 of 2018 was signed by the governor in July. Shown in photo, from left, are state Sen. Jake Corman, U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, Centre County Commissioner Mark Higgins, Hanna, Todd Warner, a retired U.S. Army Reserve colonel, and Roger Elling, Centre County Veterans Affairs Office.
