CDL training

opportunity extended

MILL HALL — The registration deadline has been extended for a commercial driver’s license training for adults, scheduled to start Oct. 1.

The new deadline to sign up is Sept. 24.

The training will be held on the Central Mountain High School campus, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Three certifications are offered: A, B, and A Extended.

Keystone Central Career and Technology Center offers the training, through a partnership with Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI). The registration date was extended due to the recent, temporary closing of Keystone Central schools and offices.

Both First National Bank and Woodlands Bank offer tuition funding options.

‘Not All About Books’

luncheon offered

FLEMINGTON — The next lunch program of Lock Haven Christian Women’s Club is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Flemington First Church of Christ, 714 Fairpoint Road, Allison Township (Mill Hall).

The Canal Street bridge is now open for easier access to the church.

The theme for the luncheon is “Not All About Books,” and Tammy Garrison, executive director of the Ross Library, will give a presentation. Local soloist Beth Young will sing.

The speaker for the day is Barbara Vernoski from Blairstown, N.J., who says, “My life took off when I used the right flight plan.” She won the title of Mrs. New Jersey Queen on 2008.

The luncheon begins at 11:50 a.m. and the cost of $15 per person includes lunch, entertainment and the speakers.

All area women are invited. The location has parking and allows for on-site child care for young mothers. Nursery reservations must be made at the time of luncheon reservations. Mothers are asked to bring a lunch or snack for the child.

This is a perfectly designed time to meet new friends and catch up with old ones.

Fall festival set at

Walker Township Park

MINGOVILLE — A fall festival is offered Saturday, Sept. 22 in Walker Township Park, Route 64, near Mingoville.

The festival includes free kids’ crafts, games and activities. Families can make a scarecrow, and there will be the chance to decorate a pumpkin and paint Kindness Rocks, all at no charge. Craft and food vendors also will be on hand, and community organizations will offer information.

Kids also will have the chance to “touch a truck” including a dump truck, ambulance and police and firefighting vehicles.
