HARRISBURG – A Central Mountain High School student is among honorees by the Pennsylvania Municipal LeaguE.
Noel Moore, a member of Central Mountain High School’s Class of 2019, was among three winners of the league’s Annual High School Senior Essay Scholarships. Other winners were Molly Ehrig, Bethlehem Catholic High School and Shirlann Harmon, Seneca Valley High School, also were named winners.
Moore, Ehrig and Harmon were recognized at The League’s 119th Annual Summit during an Awards Ceremony this past Saturday at the Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry Township.
Ehrig is the first place winner and recipient of a $2,000 scholarship.
Moore is the second place winner and will receive a $1,000 scholarship and Shirlann Harmon is the third place winner and will receive a $500 scholarship. This is the 35th year that the Pennsylvania Municipal League has awarded these scholarships. The award monies are deposited at the financial aid office of each awardee’s selected institution of higher education.
The scholarships this year were made possible through the Pennsylvania Municipal League and the generous contribution of Yvonne Garner in memory of her husband, John A. Garner, Jr., PML executive director emeritus.
Contest participants were asked to elaborate on the appropriate theme – Civics and You – by writing about opportunities in their community that allow for civic engagement and encourage citizens to volunteer to help with local challenges. See our Civics and You e-book.
“Our 2018 High School Senior Essay Contest winners Molly Ehrig, Noel Moore and Shirlann Harmon, are to be commended for their exceptional essays,” said League Executive Director Richard J. Schuettler. “I truly hope these bright young adults will consider futures which include service in local government.”
