LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University’s 17th annual student pottery sale will be held Dec. 13 and 14 at Lock Haven University’s Art Annex studio building, 515 Railroad St., between the Student Recreation Center and the Willis Health Professions Building.

This year four regional artisans will join the event and offer a sampling of their work. Guest potters are Selinda Kennedy, Bonny Slopey Mardis, Rebecca Forbes and Roberta “Bobbie” Daniels.

The sale will be held Thursday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Art Department Professor Vance McCoy is the driving force behind the sale and summed up the event’s intent. “Every autumn semester I teach pottery class and the main goals are to provide students with the knowledge and techniques to work with clay, learn glazing techniques and to develop interpersonal skill sets so they learn how to cooperatively work within a shared studio space. Knowing the annual sale is held at the end of the semester inspires the students to generate greater quantities of pieces. During the sale the students gain experience working beside professional artisans. They learn how to setup the show, assist customers and complete sale transactions. And they are excited to give a portion of their sales to one of our local charities, H.E.L.P. 4 Pets,” he said.

Pottery sale proceeds donate 10% to the local non-profit H.E.L.P 4 Pets organization. H.E.L.P. provides no-interest loans to pet owners that need financial assistance in cases of emergency pet care. H.E.L.P. also supports the Chessie spay and neuter program. President Pam Blesh will attend the sale and offer additional information to the public.

During the pottery sale free parking is available adjacent to L.H.U.’s Art Annex building (former KCSD horticultural building) off Railroad Street.
