UPMC Susquehanna to host Senior Lifestyle and Injury Prevention Program

WILLIAMSPORT — UPMC Susquehanna is offering a new educational program for older adults – Senior Lifestyle and Injury Prevention (SLIP) at The LifeCenter, Williamsport Branch YMCA, 641 Walnut St., Williamsport. Classes are a two-part series. During the first class, attendees are educated on fall prevention and home safety, and the second class is focused on driving and pedestrian safety.

Staff from UPMC Susquehanna Outpatient Physical Therapy will participate in class one of the series offering assessments and referrals to primary care providers if needed.

Why: The SLIP injury prevention program is designed to address the needs of older adults. Elderly persons are disproportionately at risk for poor outcomes following injury, and are rapidly growing in the overall population. The aging process affects visual, cognitive, and psychomotor skills, and even simple tasks of daily living can put older adults at risk for injury. These facts support the need for injury prevention programs like this one.

When: Classes are the third Wednesday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m.
