LHU program for LGBTQ students,

families

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University’s President’s Commission on LGBTQ Affairs will present “Supporting LGBTQ Students and Families: Incorporating Literature in and Beyond School” from 12:45-1:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 in Raub Hall, room 306 on the campus of LHU.

Topics for the interactive program with Dr. Alyce Baker, professor of English, include celebrate welcoming schools, “Jazz and Friends” book reading, support transgender and non-binary youth, be an ally, learn over lunch, learn why pronouns are important and a Human Rights campaign event.

The event is supported by National Education Association (NEA). Free lunch will be provided to those to register prior to the event.

John Gummo guest speaker at Terrill Lecture

LOCK HAVEN– The Stevenson Library at Lock Haven University will host the 9th annual Colonel Robert and Helen Burgess Terrill Lecture, “A Summary of Our Rail Transportation History,” with guest speaker, John Gummo, from 2-3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 in the library’s second floor.

A local railroad enthusiast, Gummo, will present a brief history of American railroads, from the 19th century to the mainline and regional short-line activity of today. He also will describe his work with several restoration and preservation projects. Two locomotive models from Gummo’s vast collection will be on display during his lecture.

Gummo serves on the board of the Joint Rail Authority (SEDA-COG/JRA) and on the board of the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.

The program is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
