LHU alumna to speak about mental health awareness
LOCK HAVEN — Entrepreneur, Brittany Cooley, will present “Hell to Hope: A Personal Story of Finding Purpose Through Pain,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 in the Ulmer Planetarium on the campus of LHU. A reception with refreshments will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Cooley, is a free-spirited, entrepreneur who is hell-bent on sharing her message of strength and hope across the globe. She has dedicated her life to being one of the powerful faces of mental health awareness and suicide prevention after her own serious suicide attempt in 2012. Her suicide attempt was the climax of a decade of trauma including homelessness, hunger, sexual abuse and loss in her youth. Today, she shares her story of tragedy to triumph as a powerful example of using the struggles she has faced to strengthen her tenacious spirit.
Cooley graduated from Lock Haven University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She is a social media branding coach and the founder of “Branding By Britt,” where she personally mentors motivated entrepreneurs to grow an engaged following on social media by being confident in who they are. She also is the co-founder of B&B Fit Meals, the first healthy meal prep and delivery service in Bradford County. Her autobiography, “Strength Personified: A Personal Story of Tragedy to Triumph,” is her first book. The event will be hosted by the LHU Social Work Club and is free and open to the public.

Lycoming Audubon bird
walk on April 13
WILLIAMSPORT — Lycoming Audubon bird walk at State Game Land 252 will be held on Saturday, April 13 and everybody’s welcome to join the group in this prime birding area looking for spring migrants.
Tick protection are water-resistant footwear are suggested.
The walk will begin at 8 p.m., weather permitting.
Meet at the third parking lot (on left) in the game lands. Directions: Route 15 south to Rout 54 west to Alvira Road.
Nittany Valley Writers meeting
STATE COLLEGE — The Nittany Valley Writers Network will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in the Schlow Library Community Room in State College.
Writer, actor, and story expert Ed Shimp will speak about “Thoughts on Plots – An Examination of Stories and Their Structures.”
The Nittany Valley Writers’ Network is a sharing, supportive, inspiring community linking local writers of all genres and levels of experience: expert and novice, published and hopeful. All writers are welcome.

MDA Muscle Walk is June 15
STATE COLLEGE — The 2019 MDA Muscle Walk of State College, will be held June 15.
More than 75 people from the State College and surrounding area are registered for the 2019 MDA Muscle Walk of Harrisburg, Central Pa to help kids and adults with Muscular Dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases live longer and grow stronger.
The second annual event to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association at State College includes an opportunity to complete our victory lap. They can walk or roll through the balloon arch and enjoy their day at the event. A DJ will provide musical entertainment. There will be a magician, mascots, snacks and much, much more.
Funds raised will help MDA fund groundbreaking research to accelerate treatments and cures; and provide state-of-the art care and support for MDA families living in State College and in hometowns across America, helping them to live longer and grow stronger.

Millennial expert to speak at LHU
LOCK HAVEN — Hailey Yatros, author, millennial life coach and keynote speaker, will present “Creating Authentic Connections in a Digital World” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 in the Ulmer Hall Planetarium on the campus of Lock Haven University.
Yatros has authored “The Millennial Makeover” and “Back to the Source: Cultivating Inner Peace in a Technology-Driven World,” has taught thousands of young adults how to build meaningful relationships so they can be equipped to make a global impact in their communities and around the world.
She has been featured in Taste of Home Magazine, HayHouse Radio, MetroParent Magazine, Elite Daily, Millennial Magazine, Vice Magazine and many others.
Yatros emphasizes discussions and trust so her student audiences can honestly look at their inner selves and build relationships.
“We are bringing Hailey to campus so students can look at their lives in a more holistic perspective,” said Alicia Lykens, pre-physician assistant major and Safe Haven student wellness club president. “We want our students to have the skills to create connections with their friends, communities and careers. One of the unique things about Lock Haven University is how much emphasis there is upon student life in and outside of the classroom. That’s what this program is about.”

Ross Library plans classes on money
LOCK HAVEN — The Ross Library will be the place to be for two free classes dealing with money.
The first — Basic Budgeting — will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, under the leadership of Muncy Bank and Trust Company.
The focus will be on how to make the most of your money.
The second class is called Protect Your Money Online, and will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, with IT specialist Keith Kern teaching the best ways to protect your money during online transactions.
Both events will be held on the third floor at Ross Library. And both are free.
