Still time to participate in Flags of Honor

LOCK HAVEN –The Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven had an idea four years ago to honor veterans, first responders, and people important in one’s life. The idea came from seeing American flags flying proudly along Route 15 near Country Cupboard and gave way to the Flags of Honor that will be erected at Triangle Park during Memorial Day weekend.

On this fourth year, the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven continues this beautiful and solemn service. The flags will be flying on sunrise of May 25 through sundown of May 28. The VFW will be there sometime Sunday afternoon May 26, after their program at the monument on the corner of Church Street and Bellefonte Avenue. Kim Vance will be singing the National Anthem.TAPS will be blown. Individuals who sponsored a flag or flags will receive a beautiful program booklet.

Individuals would sign a sponsorship form. The club would purchase the flags and erect them along the perimeter of Triangle Park. The club received permission from Lock Haven City Council. Holes were drilled into the ground to slide the poles down. Signs were placed below the flag for whom the flag is honoring. More than 80 flags flew in the park last year.

To sponsor a flag or for more information, see any Downtown Rotarian or contact Sue Foust at Rotarysue52@gmail.com, 570-893-1223 or 570-660-2581.
