Each Saturday, The Express community newspaper highlights people, groups and activities our readers deem worthy of applause.
APPLAUSE to the good samaritan who paid for my purchases at the Weis Store in Lock Haven on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2019. Thank you and God Bless You.

Frustration leads to APPLAUSE. Who goes to the Post Office to pick up their mail and they just happen to take along a “push down and turn” can that their 87-year-old hands repeatedly and frustratingly cannot open? “Push down and turn, “push down and turn,” and the lid continually goes round and round securely remaining atop the can. Throwing the can across the room or even out the door might help one feel better, but it fails to open the can. Please take my advice. I have learned from past experience. I have wonderful neighbors and if I ask, they are glad to help in any way, but I’m already heading to the Post Office. One of the lovely advantages of living in a small town is knowing lots of residents and most of the local employees personally. I enter the Post Office with my “trusty” unopened can and ask Amy if Rich or Ron are available because I am in need of help. She said, “Yes, Rich is here,” as she took the can in her young hands, pushed down and turned and handed me the lid separated from the can. Laughing, she said, “We got this.” Oh, the difficulties of growing older, yet, not fearful of admitting the need for help. We are blessed by one another — the caring, compassionate and helpfulness of others — a true gift from God. Applause to Amy and Rich and each of you who extend that helping hand. Thank you Amy. God bless. Cookies on the way.
