BC Senior Cheer Group celebrates Memorial Day

PHOTO PROVIDED

A Memorial Day Celebration was recently put on by Sgt. Terry and Carmen Banfill for the Beech Creek Senior Cheer Group at the Beech Creek Community Center. The program began with the posting of the Colors by Sgt. Terry Banfill and P.F.C. Don Hills. Carmen Banfill played the National anthem and Alan Black said the opening prayer. Guest speaker for the event was VFW State Representative, Dave Bower. He spoke about the history of Memorial Day and in particular, he spoke on the anniversary of the landing of Normandy. Sgt. Terry Banfill and P.F.C. Don Hills presented the “Table for One” program. This table is a tribute to all the MIA’s & POW’s who never made it home. Sgt. Banfill told the group that these veterans were there for us and our country. Some couldn’t wait to come home to their families they loved. Others gave their ultimate sacrifice. Today, as everyday, they remain unforgotten. The program ended with Alan Black saying the closing prayer. A small lunch followed the program. Pictured, from left, are Sgt. Terry Banfill; Janie Confer, secretary; Charlotte Young, treasurer; Peggy Gilbert, president; Judy Kane; PFC Don Hills; Carmen Banfill. Back row are Larry Butler, vice-president; Dave Bower; and Alan Black.
