Ross Library seeking

help for book sale

LOCK HAVEN –It’s that time of year again! The annual book sale will be held Sept. 18-21 on the patio at the Annie Halenbake Ross Library.

The library is looking for donations of books, CDs, DVDs and other media starting August 1 and continuing through Sept. 12. Donations can be brought to the Ross Library lobby.

The library is also looking for volunteers to help sort books and to work the book sale. Books will be sorted on Wednesdays, August 7-Sept. 11, from 2 -5 p.m. The library will need help with setup on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16 and 17 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and then assistance for the book sale, Wednesday 9 a.m. -5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The library will need both book attendants and cash register operators on those days.

F.J. Sayers 50th Anniversary event planned

HOWARD — On Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with state and local representatives, is hosting a public open house and presentation at Foster Joseph Sayers Dam.

The event will recognize 50 years of flood risk management operation of the dam, as well as the American hero — Private First Class Foster Joseph Sayers, former resident of Centre County and Medal of Honor recipient for heroic actions during WWII.

There will be tours of the gate house, historical information, music and more.

Barn dance at 1900 Red Barn

LOCK HAVEN — Put on your dancing shoes or boots because the McNett Country Band will be playing at the Island Road 1900 Red Barn on August 3 starting at 6 p.m. No prior country dancing experience needed, we will teach you as we go.

Tickets are $20 at the Heisey House Museum on Water Street. Hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can get your tickets online at www.clintonpahistory.org or by calling 570-748-7254 and leaving a message. Tickets will be $25 at the door. Sponsors are JCH Construction, Bechdel Plumbing Heating and AC and C. Watkins & Assocs.

Food and your choice of beverage are included in the price of your ticket.

Auction items will be available for bid and the band will take requests. This fun event will benefit the Clinton County Historical Society, whose mission is to collect, preserve and share the history of Clinton County.

LHU to host

Northeast Mycological Foray

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University and Dr. Barrie Overton, LHU professor, will host the Northeast Mycological Foray from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, August 4.

The event will be held at the East Campus Science Center at LHU.

The foray is a scientific meeting and exhibition of mushrooms and other fungi collected in the Lock Haven area.
