LHU to hold fall

convocation ceremony

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University will hold the Founder’s Day Convocation ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 25 in the Thomas Fieldhouse on the LHU campus.

Keynote speaker will be Daniel Buccino, a founding member of the Johns Hopkins Civility Initiative with P.M. Forni in 1997, who later became its director in 2014. He also is the clinical manager for the Johns Hopkins Broadway Center for Addiction, the founder and director of the Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute and an associate and advisor for the International Center for Clinical Excellence.

Buccino is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and is a clinical associate professor at the Smith College School for Social Work and at the University of Maryland School of Social Work.

He is published widely, and has lectured and consulted internationally on issues of psychotherapy outcomes, manners and mental health, the ethics and etiquette of health care and on civility in health care, the academy and in the workplace.

‘Fitness as We Age,’ is topic at Covenant Cafe

LOCK HAVEN — The Covenant Cafe, an early stage Alzheimer’s activity group, will be held on Tuesday, August 20th from 1-3 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church at 44 W. Main St. in Lock Haven.

Ron Kodish, a recently retired professor of Health Education at Penn College will give a presentation on “Fitness as We Age” with a PowerPoint and interactive exercise demonstrations. The public is invited to hear the presentation and enjoy refreshments at the Cafe.

Following the presentation, the group will make Penn State pom-poms in preparation for their tailgate party to be held in the church parking lot on Sept. 3. The Twisted Racquet Tears will provide musical entertainment for the festivities.

The Covenant Cafe is a joint venture between the Outreach and Witness Committee of Covenant United Methodist, the Alzheimer’s Support Group and the Alzheimer’s Association. Participants in this group are given an opportunity to be involved in socially and physically stimulating programs which will help them remain as active as possible.
