Landfill to host ‘Household Hazardous Waste Collection’

McELHATTAN — The Solid Waste Authority will be holding a “Hazardous Waste Collection” event today from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the recycling center in Wayne Township, 15 Landfill Lane.

Acceptable items to be collected are: pool chlorine; motor oils; rechargable batteries; pesticides; brake fluid; aerosol cans; mercury and mercury containing device; auto batteries; paint remover; antifreeze; cleaners; herbicides; fluorescent bulbs.

Latex and oil based paints will not be accepted at this event.

All Clinton County homeowners or residential tenants are eligible to bring their household hazardous waste to the collection site. Due to regulatory requirements, business, commercial and industrial entities are not eligible.

Tractor Supply celebrates animals on Saturday

MILL HALL – On Saturday, Aug. 24, Mill Hall Tractor Supply Company will host animal adoptions, a pet supplies drive and more during their annual Out Here with Animals celebration – a month-long event that recognizes pets, animals and the people who care for them.

As part of the pet-centric happenings, animal lovers will have the opportunity to engage with team members about pet and animal care while supporting local rescue groups that are looking to find a safe home for animals in need.

“Tractor Supply celebrates pets and animals of all shapes and sizes year-round, and with our annual Out Here with Animals event, we get to spotlight our customers, their pets and the local rescue groups that play an integral role in the Mill Hall community,” said Gina Irvin, manager of the Mill Hall Tractor Supply.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will also be a K-9 Unit demonstration, bake sale, cookout and 4health Resource Center.

Customers can also support the local animal shelter community by participating in Tractor Supply’s pet supplies drive. The store is accepting new sealed food, toys, cleaning supplies and other essential pet accessories such as beds, scratching posts, leashes and bowls to be donated to Mill Hall rescues and shelters.

The store will also be offering special prices on products for pets.

Penn State offers strength training in Loganton

LOGANTON –Penn State Extension in collaboration with the Sugar Valley Rural Charter school will be offering a strength training program for men and women called LIFT. LIFT stands for Lifelong Improvements Through Fitness Together.

LIFT is an eight- week program that meets twice a week, and includes an active warm up, core strength training exercises and a cool down. The program also teaches participants easy ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables in their daily diet.

The class meets at the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Sept. 24, from 6-7 p.m.
