City installs new trash cans on Main Street

LAURA JAMESON/THE EXPRESS

Downtown Lock Haven Inc. Manager Samantha Eisenhart throws trash away in one of the city’s new trash cans along Main Street. Six new cans were purchased through a pledged effort by city council with the Capital Improvement Plan, Public Works Director Anthony Stopper said. The cans were placed along Main Street up to its intersection with Grove Street with plans to hopefully continue adding more. These cans replace the large metal 50-gallon drums the city has been using for years. “For each additional can the city will match 50/50 with local contributors up to $10,000 a year,” Stopper said. “Each can is $448.95. We secured this amount through procurement and COSTARS that is an option for local municipalities. Because the city already contributed its share of this purchase there is only going to be an available amount of around $6,800 to match from the city effort.” With that amount the city may be able to purchase another 15 cans with the public’s help. If a business or local contributor would like to donate they can contact City Hall at 570-893-5900.
