The Pleasant Valley Ladies Aid is planning their annual Harvest Day in early October. Homemade soups and apple butter is made in kettles over an open fire for the Harvest Day event. The apple butter is sold by the pint and quart jars, and many jars are needed for the event. The jars must be able to accept a Ball refill lid. If anyone has any pint or quart jars that you could donate you can leave them at the Brotherhood Park pavilion or call Phyllis at 814-355-2268 for local pick up.
Howard United Methodist Church will hold a Soup Sale luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the church fellowship hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The cost for lunch is $6 that includes a bowl of soup, piece of pie, a roll and beverage. Soup is also available for take-outs that is sold in freezable containers. Take-out orders for quarts of soup should be phoned to Patti at 814-625-2182 before September 15.
Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard will be having a take-out Chicken BBQ on Sept. 28 from 11-1 at the church. A meal will include 1/2 chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans, a roll and dessert for $10. Tickets for the take-out meal will be available by calling the church at 570-962-2214. Leave your name and how many meals you plan to purchase. Local delivery is possible if arrangements are made early.
Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard is taking orders for Terri Lynn candy and nuts. Orders must be placed by Sept. 22 and delivery should be in the later part of October. If you are interested in the candy and nuts please call Joyce at 570-962-3355 for pricing and to place your order.
BACK TO CHURCH
Howard Christian Church is participating in the National Back to Church Sunday scheduled for Sept. 15. The church is having a special service and everyone who is not actively involved with a local congregation is invited to come. Back to Church Sunday will offer the perfect opportunity to renew your faith in God and expand your relationships. Life is easier when we share it together. The special service will begin at 10 a.m.

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution day for Beech Creek area residents and those from Centre County who missed their distribution date earlier this month will be on Sept. 16. Food bank hours are from 2-4 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary School.
Liberty Township Sportsmen’s Club will offer Clubhouse Bingo on Sept. 19. Doors and the kitchen opens at 5:30 and bingo games begin at 6:30. Bring a friend and enjoy the evening in Marsh Creek for bingo.

The Fairview Cemetery Association will be hosting a Chicken BBQ and Bake Sale on Sept. 21 at the Yarnell Community Center. Tiny will be grilling up chicken halves that will be sold beginning at 11 a.m. Baked goods are needed for the event and can be dropped off at the center on Friday or the morning of the bake sale. A Nittany Valley Amish Benefit Dinner will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Hublersburg fire hall from noon to 7 p.m. You get to pick your dinner hour for this home-cooked, wedding style meal. Seating reservations can be called into Katie at 814-383-2008. Walk-ins are welcome and take-out meals are available. Prices are $18 for adults; $16 for senior citizens and those who are aged 11-17; $5 for children ages 5-10; and little tykes eat free. The proceeds benefit the Amish schools in the area.
Howard Fire Company’s annual Punkin Chunkin will be held on Oct. 12 at Bald Eagle State Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be craft and food vendors, hay rides, a bounce house and pumpkins being launched throughout the day, There is still space available for vendors and applications are available on-line at email@example.com or by calling Kathi at 814-360-1680.
