Women invited to dance for better health

WILLIAMSPORT – UPMC Susquehanna’s Spirit of Women program will hold its annual Day of Dance to promote women’s health Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Williamsport Branch YMCA, 641 Walnut St.

Women who sign up for the free Spirit of Women membership are eligible to attend the event, which includes fitness and dance demonstrations, free health screenings, shopping, give-aways, and prizes. Attendees will be able to participate in Drums Alive, line dancing, core Tabata, chair yoga, Flex n’ Function, power yoga, gentle yoga, and Zumba, as well as aqua Zumba in the pool.

Free health screenings will include smoking cessation and breathing, blood pressure, body composition, and information on heart rate monitoring, how it correlates to exercise, and more.

“We’re excited for more than 300 women in our community to come out and enjoy the dance, aerobics, and many other health and wellness activities at Day of Dance,” said Tonya Welshans, Spirit of Women coordinator at UPMC Susquehanna. “We’re proud to participate in this fun, nationwide event to promote overall health and wellness, for the seventh year.”

UPMC Susquehanna launched its Spirit of Women program in 2011 and has more than 5,000 members throughout northcentral Pennsylvania. Spirit of Women motivates and empowers women to make positive changes to lead their best, healthiest life. Spirit of Women members receive free or discounted health screenings and classes, invitations to members-only events, ongoing health and wellness information, and a loyalty card to give access to special offers from area businesses.
