WILLIAMSPORT — Ten little fingers, ten little toes. Boy or girl? Nobody knows … except the OB/GYN providers at UPMC Susquehanna. To add to the excitement of finding out a baby’s gender, expecting parents now receive a special gender reveal gift during their 20-week ultrasound appointment at UPMC Susquehanna.

The “Magic of New Beginnings” gender reveal box includes a pink or blue teddy bear, wrapped in UPMC purple tissue paper, which tells the gender of the baby to the parents upon opening the box. The box also includes a mother of pearl photo frame and a congratulatory card from the caregivers at UPMC Susquehanna. Parents can choose to open the box during the appointment or take it home and open it with family and friends as part of a gender reveal party.

“With the rise in gender reveal celebrations, we wanted to add to the excitement,” said Kim Boyer, director of operations, SH OB/GYN at UPMC Susquehanna. “Not only is it fun for the parents and their families to receive the gift, but it allows our staff to participate in the celebration and strengthen the bond between the patients and provider.”

Due to the growing number of moms who prefer their baby’s gender to be a surprise at birth, UPMC Susquehanna will soon add a gender neutral box to its lineup.

“Although the gift is a small gesture of our appreciation, it’s a nice memory for the families,” said Boyer. “We’ve already seen the boxes pop up on social media since we ask new parents to post their reveal photos and videos with #SusquehannaBaby.”
