New plastic and reconstructive surgeon at UPMC
WILLIAMSPORT — Amitabha Mitra, MD, board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, has joined the plastic and reconstructive surgery team at UPMC Susquehanna.
Dr. Mitra earned his medical degree at Calcutta National Medical College, Calcutta, India. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgeons in both plastic and general surgery. In addition to his education, he is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, American Association of Plastic Surgery, American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons, Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), and Fellow of American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Before joining UPMC Susquehanna, Dr. Mitra served as professor and chief of Plastic Surgery at Temple University and Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia.
“The emotional effects caused by traumatic injury have a large impact on patients, especially when it comes to injuries that alter a patient’s appearance,” said Dr. Mitra. “My goal is to work with the patient to repair their physical appearance and diminish the emotional impact, helping with their healing process and restoring their quality of life.”
Dr. Mitra will see patients at UPMC Susquehanna Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, UPMC Susquehanna Divine Providence, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport. Conditions treated and procedures performed include: breast reconstruction, nerve repair, skin lesion/cancer excisions, cosmetic interventions, wound management, burns, and trauma to the hands, lower extremities, face, and head.
