Tree meets witch

PAUL GARRETT/For The Express

Jersey Shore resident Linda Baker heard the 100-year-old, silver maple tree in her front yard fall onto South Main Street in the borough during the intense storm that pushed through the area Thursday evening and early Friday. Officials estimated that Jersey Shore saw an estimated five to six inches of rain. “I came out to make sure everything was safe and I was like, where’s the witch?” Linda asked herself. Linda and her husband, Chuck, have lived at 256 S. Main St. for the past 15 years. The Bakers had a decoration for Halloween on the tree. It depicted a witch slamming into the tree while she was riding on her broom. Unfortunately, now it looks like a tree, not Dorothy’s house from the Wizard of Oz, fell on the wicked witch. “Well she’s still on the tree … she’s just smooshed,” said Baker laughing. According to Jersey Shore borough officials, there was no major damage in the town besides some flooded basements and low lying roads and fields due to Lawshe Run spilling over its banks.
