RENOVO — The Renovo Borough Council addressed various issues at their yearly reorganizational meeting Wednesday.

Council is accepting bids on the vacant houses starting at 500 Ontario Ave., structures that have plagued the borough for years.

The houses have been vacant for many years and have begun to collapse onto Ontario Avenue so much so that at one point last year that section of Ontario was closed due to the unsafe buildings.

Bids will be accepted through Feb. 7 with a public pre-bid meeting slated for Jan. 25 at the borough building where potential bidders can ask questions.

FIRE COMPANY INSURANCE

Council member Kari Kepler said that talks have begun to see if Renovo Borough is paying more than their fair share of insurance for emergency calls to Noyes and West Keating townships.

According to Kepler, since Noyes and West Keating do not have their own emergency departments, Renovo Fire Department and Citizen’s Hose of South Renovo share coverage of those areas. She explained that when that occurs those companies are relying on their own insurance to be covering those areas.

Ideally it was said that Noyes and West Keating would be helping with those costs, something that would be based on a per capita basis for both of those townships.

PERSONNEL

In personnel matters, council accepted a letter of resignation from council member Marry Ann Olshefskie regarding her sitting on the Renovo Water Department. The resignation does not affect her seat on Renovo Council. Mark Campbell was nominated and accepted to fill the vacant water department seat.

Following the trend of previous reorganizational meetings, nothing has changed. Heading up the various committees for 2017 in Renovo are:

Administration Chairpersons, Rhonda Balchun, Kari Kepler; Police/Fire Chairpersons, Pattie Rauch, Balchun, Tommy Tarantella; Building/Health and Sanitation Chairpersons, Marry Ann Olshefskie, T. Tarantella, Mark Campbell; Streets/Parks Chairpersons, Kari Kepler, Campbell, T. Tarantella; Grants Chairpersons, Kepler, Olshefskie, Balchun; Renovo Borough Water Reps, Ann Tarantella, Campbell, Kepler; COG Rep, Rauch, alternate A. Tarantella.

In other matters:

r Council is quite happy with the progress of  their planned Fifth Street boat launch, as one of the most noticeable fruits of their labor will perhaps be the most visible.

r The Renovo ice skating rink is open to the public at the 16th Street Park, with a DJ Dance scheduled nest Saturday, Jan. 21 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
