Friends of the Ross Library honor Kodish, Allison

LOCK HAVEN — Wayne Allison and Eleanor Kodish were honored at the Friends of Ross Library annual meeting, held May 8.

Allison was named Friend of the Friends and Kodish was named Volunteer of the Year.

Judy Lantz, a Friends director, spoke about her dear friend Allison. When he joined the Friends board, Wayne was very committed to the library. He was instrumental in renovating the Children’s Library and became the Friends fundraising chairman. He has headed eight radio auctions and spaghetti dinners. With his commitment, leadership, and persistence, he has helped to raise more than $61,000, all going toward preserving Ross Library. He is now retired from the Friends board and has passed the baton to others. He said he attributes his success to a group effort.

Carmen Banfill, Friends president, spoke about her dear friend Eleanor Kodish. Eleanor is a retired teacher and principal since 1981. Growing up on a farm, she said the love of books was instilled in her. Whenever she steps into the lobby of Ross Library, she smells books, she said.

Her volunteering began early. She helped to inventory more than 85,000 books, called accessioning. She inventories the books used for the traveling bookmobile. Over the past four years, she maintains scrapbooks. They contain any important publications about Ross Library.

Eleanor herself is a published author of three children’s books. She is currently working on another.

Wayne and Eleanor were presented with silver and black plaques. As one enters the door by the gallery, their names are inscribed on a permanent plaque with other past recipients.
