ROTE–Some were red.

Some were green.

Others were bright orange.

There were big ones and little ones; shiny ones and some that showed their days in the fields were long and hard.

It didn’t matter the color or size, all tractors were welcome to participate in Saturday morning’s tractor parade through Lamar Township.

It was the fifth annual Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Company tractor pull and this year the 15-mile ride kicked off the townships’s 200th anniversary celebration.

As the tractors wound their way through the township, residents sat on lawn chairs along the rural roads to cheer them on.

In all, about three dozen tractors participated, some throwing candy to children along the route. Others pulled wagons with passengers from different clubs and organizataions.

The parade, which began at 9 a.m. from Long Run Park, was the start of a day-long celebration at the park.

An opening ceremony at noon featured State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, and Pastor Cindy Killinger taking the podium. Emcee was Sam Duck and Carl Calhoun provided music.

And there was plenty of food and activities for young and old. Food was provided by Lamar Township Fire Company and anniversary tee-shirts and hats were also available.
