The Kiwanis Club of Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys held its annual Kids Day/Health and Safety Expo recently at the Mill Hall Volunteer Fire Company. Approximately 166 children under the age of 10 with family members attended for an estimate of over 400 visitors through the doors. They were welcomed by 20 exhibitors with information related to family health and safety like how to properly call 911 in an emergency. Kids were able to select free books and enter a raffle for door prizes. The area that normally houses the fire trucks was transformed into a game room with several fun games, a small petting zoo featuring goats, and of course, food. Two puppet shows presented by the Kidz4Education division of Kingdom Kidz were on the topics of staying healthy and being safe. Another popular outside event was an obstacle course that challenged kids’ fitness abilities. A new feature of Kids Day focused on bicycle safety. Kids of different ages were quizzed on bicycle safety and each received a free bicycle helmet courtesy of a grant from the Pennsylvania Kiwanis Foundation. The club is now gearing up for its next big event, the second annual Go Gold fundraiser to support local childhood cancer awareness groups. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Mill Hall Volunteer Fire Company and will feature a raffle table and sale of soups and baked goods.
