4-H Club taking donations

for equine hurricane victims

LOCK HAVEN — The Clinton County 4-H club, Scuffed Boots, is accepting donations to be sent to the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) in order to assist horses and horse owners in need as a result of the many recent disasters.

These funds will be distributed to equine missions serving Texas and Florida. Many groups within the veterinary and equine communities are working to provide aid to horses and their caretakers affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. At this time, financial donations are the most preferred because of the difficulty in getting supplies from outside of the region to the affected horses.

The AAEP has been very instrumental in providing direct relief for these sometimes forgotten victims. Please help our club make an impact on assisting our equine friends affected by these tragic events.

Contributions can me mailed to Laurie Hendricks, 3290 Nichols Run Road, Jersey Shore, Pa. 17740. Please mail your contribution by October 2 if possible or contact Laurie if more time is needed.

For more information, e-mail, phyrstfan @yahoo.com or call 570-660-0113.

Elder Justice Day event slated

PLEASANT GAP — The public is invited to participate in an Elder Justice Day event, Friday, Sept. 29 from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Oaks, 200 Rachel Drive.

Seniors can learn how to protect themselves and their money. Those who love them and professionals who work with senior citizens are also encouraged to attend.

The free educational event will include information on senior scams, financial abuse, using powers of attorney to protect yourself, and “How I Got Scammed,” a true story from a local senior.

The event is being presented by the Centre County Elder Abuse Task Force.

The task force was recently developed by the Centre County district attorney’s office, in conjunction with the Centre County Office of Aging.

Every year, tens of thousands of elderly Americans are abused in their own homes, in relatives’ homes, even in facilities responsible for their care, according to the D.A.’s office.

In addition, the Office of Aging routinely investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older adults.

It is an unfortunate reality that older adults are increasingly becoming victims in our community, and these crimes often go unrecognized or unreported, the D.A.’s office stated.

At the Elder Justice Day event, task force members will set up exhibits and information tables for the public. A light breakfast and lunch will be served at no cost.

To reserve, call Brandy Lose at 814-355-6716.
