Man, 37, jailed on $200K bail after hit-and-run buggy crash

MONTGOMERY — A 37-year-old Lycoming County man faces multiple charges as a result of a hit-and-run crash involving a buggy on Route 54 on Sunday that left six members of a farming family injured, some seriously.

Christopher Cranmer had a suspended license and even tampered with evidence following the crash at 9:30 p.m. in the area of 394 Route 54 in Clinton Township, state police at Montoursville report.

Cranmer was arrested Monday and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Police said Cranmer was driving a 2006-model Nissan truck when it slammed into a buggy operated by Christopher Fisher, 34, of Montgomery, whose six passengers included his wife, Kathryn Fisher, 33, and their five children, three girls, ages 7, 11 and 13, and two boys ages 5 and 9.

The crash resulted “in serious injuries” as two of the children were flown by LifeFlight to Geisinger Medical Center, and the other members of the family were taken by ambulance to Geisinger in Danville, police said.

The father, who was operating the buggy, was not injured, but all of them were ejected from the buggy, which was destroyed, police said.

The horse sustained serious injures but was being treated at the scene by a local veterinarian.

“After further investigation of the hit and run crash, including numerous interviews and search warrants, the vehicle and operator … were located in Montgomery,” Trooper Diggan said.

Cranmer was charged Monday and arraigned before Magistrate Christian Frey.

Charges include aggravated assault while driving under the influence, accidents involving personal injury, DUI, tampering with or fabricating evidence, driving without a license, reckless driving, duty to give information and render aid, and false reports.

A passenger in Cranmer’s vehicle was listed as Sylviesue Smith, 37, of Muncy, police said.
