PPL Electric Utilities began work in November to replace 58 streetlights in the Lock Haven business district. The new poles, which are replacing aged, green-fluted steel poles, are made from fiberglass and have an expected lifespan of over 60 years, according to Tracie Witter, PPL regional affairs director. All of the poles should be replaced by the end of the year. Above left, a new pole is seen on Water Street at Great Island Presbyterian Church. The City of Lock Haven is leasing the streetlights from PPL and they are being replaced as a normal part of that arrangement. They contain LED bulbs which use less electricity and are a greener alternative, Witter said.
