New Marsh Creek bridge opens to traffic
BLANCHARD — The new bridge on Marsh Creek Road (Route 1002) in Liberty Township, Centre County, was opened to traffic on Wednesday, and the detour around the project was lifted, according to PennDOT.
Crews have been working since early June to replace the old bridge spanning Marsh Creek near the village of Blanchard. Replacing the bridge eliminates it from the list of bridges in “poor” condition. An average of 275 vehicles use the bridge each day.
Project work has included removal of the old bridge, construction of a new, single span, concrete bridge, paving, guide rail upgrades, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items.
Remaining work will be done under traffic conditions with flaggers uses as necessary.
Wolyniec Construction, Inc. of Williamsport is the contractor on this $1.7 million project.
