NORTH BEND — In an effort to promote safety and enhance awareness, Chapman Township Road Crew has introduced a successful, creative community outreach initiative to the Renovo Area called “Paint the Plow.”

This program invites area students to paint snow plow blades with original artwork.

While the project has been successfully employed all over Pennsylvania, this is the first year for Chapman Township to sponsor its own program.

The 2017 Paint the Plow event was made possible with the help of Bucktail Area High School’s art instructor, Jessica L. Madenford and Roland Davenport. Supplies were all donated by Chapman Township Supervisors.

In addition to being visible when in full service during the winter-weather months, the blades will be used at events within the community to increase public awareness, promote safety and foster greater appreciation of both the road crew’s hard work and Bucktail High School’s art program. The paint also helps protect the plow blades from salt damage.

Chapman Township hopes to expand participation in Paint the Plow Program to include the surrounding municipalities by sponsoring an art contest just like several other counties around Pennsylvania. Planning will start over the summer and the next painting event will be in September 2018 so the plows may be displayed for Flaming Foliage.
