Officials relieved as ice moves down river

Local officials were keeping a close eye on the Susquehanna River on Saturday morning as the river rose quickly and prompted a meeting to talk about the need to close the flood gates on the levee. The river was scheduled to crest at 1 p.m. at 18 feet…. which is flood level for some low-lying areas. As it turned out the ice began moving in Lock Haven just before noon. This photo shows the ice moving at an extremely fast pace early Saturday afternoon.
