Walmart offers free

health screenings

MILL HALL — Walmart in Mill Hall, and all Central Pennsylvania Walmart stores, will host the second Walmart Wellness Day event of the year on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This free health screening event provides people in the community an opportunity to learn valuable health information, including their blood glucose level, blood pressure and body mass index. Low-cost immunizations are offered, as are free vision screenings in the Mill Hall store, and in any other store in the region that has a vision center.

Since its first Walmart Wellness Day event, the company has provided more than 2 million free screenings to people across the country, helping countless customers uncover existing health problems. For some, the screenings have been life-saving, Walmart says. Hundreds of thousands of Americans turn out for each Walmart Wellness Day event, making it America’s largest single-day health fair event.

Yard sale signs need permits

LINDEN — Residents of Woodward Township who are thinking of having a yard sale this summer should realize that temporary signs placed along any state highway, such as Route 220, are under the jurisdiction of the state Department of Transportation, according to the township supervisors.

Responding to a question from a citizen at Wednesday night’s meeting, the board said any sign that is within 500 to 1,000 feet of a PennDOT right-of-way has to have a permit and get approval from the state agency.

Back on the bikes

for Luke Antolick

JERSEY SHORE — The Parks-Dean team will be riding 125 miles on the Pine Creek Rail Trail in one day on May 12 to raise funds and awareness for Luke Antolick, of Jersey Shore, and his family.

This is the third time Ken and Penny Parks-Dean will bike the trail with Luke the Lion, a stuffed lion who rides every mile with them.

At three months old Luke suffered a near SIDS episode which left him with cerebral palsy like symptoms.

Now he is almost five and, as a result of two stem cells transplants, much hard work and intensive therapy, he has made tremendous progress.

In April Luke will have a third stem cell transplant in Phoenix and in June he’ll be going to Boston for a three week program of intensive therapies.

The costs for these will total over $12,000 plus flight, travel and lodging costs – none of which are covered by insurance.

If you would like to help support Luke and his family donations can be mailed to The Parks-Dean Team, 8 N. Dickinson Rd., Carlisle, Pa. 17015. Please make checks payable to the Luke Antolick Benefit Fund.

If there are any questions or more information is needed please call 717-448-4281.
