‘Spirit of Women’ kick-off Thursday

LOCK HAVEN — It’s a night for food, friends and….talks with medical professionals.

That’s right, UPMC Susquehanna’s Spirit of Women program is expanding into Clinton County and is kicking off the great news with a Girls’ Night Out event on Thursday, April 26 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center, 10 Susquehanna Ave.

Spirit of Women is a program that started seven years ago in Lycoming County and is designed to create an integrated community health system that delivers world class health care.

It’s free to join and members receive monthly news letters that cover various health care topics to help keep women in the know when it comes to their health.

Spirit of Women coordinator Tonya Welshans said Thursday’s event is the perfect night to speak with medical professionals of different fields, get free health screenings and shop local businesses such as Water Street Nutrition, CO2 Boutique, Younique Skincare & Makeup, Inspirations Floral Studio, Mary Kay Cosmetics and Seniors Creations and The Main St. Olive Oil Company.

There will be a complimentary glass of wine and chocolates.

Everything will lead up to a guest speaker at 7 p.m., Dr. Brian Orr. Dr. Orr is a gynecological oncologist, one of just 1,000 in the nation, who will speak about preventing and recognizing gynecologic cancers.

Wine in the Wilds is Saturday

MACKEYVILLE –The Clinton County Fairgrounds is the new venue of the third Annual Wine in the Wilds to be held on Saturday, April 28, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Seven Wineries and at least a dozen other vendors will have their products for sale at this important fundraiser for the Clinton County Historical Society.

Tickets for $20 are available on line at www.clintonpahistory.org and at Downtown Lock Haven on Main Street, Lock Haven or by calling 570-748-7254. Tickets will be $25 at the door.

Kick Trax will be providing the entertainment while the Clinton County Fair Board will have food for sale. Complimentary glass and wine bag while supplies last, door prizes, raffle and 50/50 add to the fun of this event.

Because of the new location, RV parking is available for $25 per night including electric and water. Call 570-726-3633 to make your reservation.

Entry forms ready for Grange Queen

CENTRE HALL — Entry forms are now available for young ladies desiring to compete in the Centre County Grange Fair Queen Contest this year.

Any Centre County female between the ages of 16 and 20 who has never been married is eligible to compete in the contest, which will be held on the Southside Stage at the fairgrounds on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. A personal information form and application form must be turned in by July 1.

Authors reading series

to host Susan Pogorzelski

LOCK HAVEN– Lock Haven University’s Pennsylvania Authors Reading Series will host Susan Pogorzelski, LHU English alumna, novelist, and editor, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 26 in the Parsons Union Building Multipurpose Room on the LHU campus.

Pogorzelski is the creative coach at Brown Beagle Books and founder of LymeBrave Foundation. She is the award-winning author of “Gold in the Days of Summer” and “The Last Letter,” a semi-autobiographical account of her experiences living with chronic Lyme disease. The event is free and open to the public and will include a book signing.

While in Lock Haven, Pogorzelski also will visit various LHU classes, meet with students about possible English careers, and serve as the speaker for the Annie Halenbake Ross Library Food for Thought Luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, April 27 at the library, 232 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
