Downtown busy today

Triathlon, festival and parade

will tie up several city streets

LOCK HAVEN – Planning on coming through downtown Lock Haven today?

Be mindful that a heavily-traveled portion of Main Street will be closed to traffic as Downtown Lock Haven Inc. celebrates the “Best of Clinton County” with a festival and parade.

Meanwhile, across the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Woodward Township – but expanding into the city – will be runners and bikers competing in the Great Island Triathon this morning.

The Rotary Club-sponsored triathlon actually began last night with a “mini-adventure” featuring a 1k kayak, 8k bike and 2k run competition.

The event – the 11th annual – begins at 8:30 this morning with a 5k kayak race, a 25k bike race, and finally a 5k run.

The bike and run both extend into the city then back to the Lockport Boat Launch along Route 664 in Woodward Township, where the event is based.

Then it’s on the festival in downtown Lock Haven.

Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with various vendors setting up along Main Street.

No one will be able to park along the street, to allow more room for the festival. Instead, free parking will be available in the Church Street lot behind Jersey Shore State Bank, as well as the YMCA lot.

The parade will start at 1 p.m.

Approximately 200 people will take part in the parade, which features members of the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona.

The Shriners are having a “Lock Haven Caravan” that will gather on the 800 block of East Bald Eagle Street about 11 a.m., form at noon and move with the parade at 1 p.m.

Joining the Shriners will be floats, fire trucks, antique vehicles, trailers, tractors, specialty vehicles, marchers and more.

Line-up will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the Jay Street side of Henderson Street,.

The parade will start at Henderson Street and run up Main Street, ending at First Street.

Also participating Saturday will be members of the Lafayette Lodge 199, Free and Accepted Mason.

Lodge members will set up a food trailer at the car wash property at Henderson and Main Streets, selling ham sandwiches, hot dogs, french fries and drinks. There also will be a yard sale at that site. At the Masonic Temple at Grove and Main Streets, the public will be offered tours of the building, and there will be food for sale there, too, he said.
