Ahead of classes, KC board deals with personnel

MILL HALL – Classes in the Keystone Central School District begin for students on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

New teachers have orientation on Wednesday, while all other classroom educators start the new year this Thursday.

Ahead of that, the school board has approved a slew of staff transfers, resignations, hirings, salaries, leave and more.

Various contracts also were approved at Thursday night’s school board meeting.

The following is a list of actions approved by the board:

r Retain Dorothy Bollinger to act as legal consultant for Keystone Central School District in matters pertaining to internet, computer, information, technology and copyright law and other issues as assigned for 2018-2019 at an hourly rate of: Standard Work $155 (same as last year)

r Retain David Lindsay, attorney with Hall and Lindsay, as school district solicitor for 2018-2019 at an hourly rate of: Standard work $110; litigation $130 (unchanged).

r Retain the firm of Carl Beard to act as legal consultants in matters pertaining to special education and other issues as assigned for 2018-2019 at an hourly rate of: Standard work $135 ($5 an hour increase); litigation $165 ($5 an hour increase).

r Retain Donald L. Faulkner, attorney with Snowiss, Steinberg and Faulkner, as solicitor for 2018-2019 at an hourly rate of: Standard work $110; litigation $130 (unchanged).

r Approve two Act 80 days (Aug. 22 and 23) for kindergarten students only, allowing for kindergarten orientation.

r Approve changes to the SMILES program (no explanation provided.)

r Approve an agreement between the West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission and the district to provide services to the Student Assistance Programs for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years.

r Employment of Naomi Spotts, long term substitute, kindergarten teacher, at Renovo Elementary School, at a salary of $47,766, Step 2, for 2018-2019. Position is the result of Marjorie Stone’s sabbatical.

r Employment of Jessica Bubniak, long term substitute, 1st grade teacher, at Woodward Elementary , at a salary of $49,783 Step 2, for 2018-2019. Position is the result of Ashley Gilmore’s sabbatical.

r Employment of Carol Long, long term substitute, 2nd grade teacher, at Robb Elementary, at a salary of $ 47,766, Step 2, for 2018-2019. Position is the result of Amanda Wadsworth’s sabbatical.

r Resignation of Whitney Eck, itinerant art teacher, Robb-Dickey-Online learning, effective August 10, 2018.

r Resignation of Amanda Kurtz, special education teacher, highly qualified English, at Central Mountain High School, effective August 15, 2018.

r Resignation of Alyssa Coakley, long term substitute, learning support, special education teacher, at CMMS, effective July 16.

r Resignation of Lori Hoy, 5th grade teacher, at Dickey Elementary, effective Aug. 6.

r The following professional employees have been rated satisfactory by the principal or supervisor and the superintendent has signed the evaluations for the first and/or second semester of 2017-2018.
