Bridge work continues on Route 64 near Lamar

LAMAR — Area drivers may encounter delays late this week and through next week as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) continues with work to improve a Route 64 bridge in Centre County. The bridge spans Little Fishing Creek near the village of Lamar and the Centre/Clinton county line.

Today and tomorrow, drivers will encounter delays as roadway milling takes place under an alternating traffic pattern, enforced by flaggers in the roadway. Also on Friday, the temporary traffic signals on the project will be removed.

Alternating traffic patterns will continue for guide rail installation on Friday and again on Saturday. Roadway paving is scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 25, 26, and 27, again with an alternating traffic pattern controlled by flaggers. Drivers should expect delays.

The 62-foot bridge carries an average of more than 4,600 vehicles per day. Repairing the bridge will remove it from the list of bridges in “poor” condition.

Repair work on this bridge is expected to be completed by early October. Overall work includes bridge repairs, removal of the existing bridge deck surface, and placement of a new concrete deck.

This work is part of a rehabilitation contract for three Centre County bridges including the protection wall of the Milesburg Truss bridge on Route 144 and the Atherton Street bridge spanning I-99. Francis J. Palo, Inc. of Clarion, is the contractor on this $1.9 million project.
